Bio

Karen has developed and implemented innovative marketing communications plans, initiatives and projects for local, regional, and national accounts. Most notably, she authored a strategic marketing plan for the City of Danville, CA, offering recommendations and inventive ways to increase foot traffic to retail outlets. She played an integral part of an innovative approach to the client-agency relationship with Long’s Drugs (450 stores) that ultimately secured the multi-million dollar account. And as the College Relations Director at Ohlone College, Fremont, CA, was responsible for advertising the new, $20 million, state-of-the-art theater and speaker series featuring former Governor Jerry Brown, Actor James Edward Olmos, AIDS Activist Aileen Getty, and former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright.

She has been recognized for her work with the arts including the Marketing Committee for the San Jose Cleveland Ballet where she had the unique opportunity to work with Apple’s Steve Wozniak and Olympic Figure Skater Peggy Fleming.

As a dancer, choreographer, producer, and writer, Karen has immersed herself in the arts. She was honored to be nominated for the ACSC Arts & Business Award for Innovation in Support of the Arts for producing a television show featuring local and world renown artists with a viewership of 220,000.

Karen ultimately won a BACE Award for the program. One of her favorite interviews was with Dennis Nahat, former Artistic Director for the Cleveland Ballet and the San Jose Cleveland Ballet, stating, “He was gracious and such a delight to meet and interview!”

Karen was the Artistic Director the Foot Lights Dance Company and co-producer of the annual song and dance concert, “Portraits”. She also appeared in the dance documentary “Turning Children’s Lives Around” and produced the award-winning program “Dream to Dance.”

While doing research for her thesis, “Marketing the Arts”, she discovered that many people opted out of attending artistic events because they were afraid they might not understand them. They felt it was “aloof” and “out of their grasp”. Alternately, people who attended artistic events felt they were uplifting, so with her boutique, Karen’s mission is to expose as many people as possible to the arts… letting people view art in a comfortable environment.

Karen is listed in Who’s Who in Women Executives recognized for her accomplishments in business and the community. She graduated with honors from Kent State University with a Bachelor of Science in Journalism, concentration in Advertising, and has completed coursework toward a Masters Degree in Mass Communications at San Jose State University. Additionally, she attended Middlesex University’s summer dance program and taught dance to gymnasts at San Jose State University and Stanford University.
